Sacred art and popular religiosity

A miraculous event was documented that led to Monsummano’s first dwellings and that supported the peopling of the plain near the marshlands. The aspects most directly related to popular religiosity are illustrated through images and votive offerings testifying to the widespread dissemination of and popular involvement with the image found in the Fontenuova Shrine.
